Slop rounds. It takes something with edges and returns something smoother. Something easier to take in.
Arrondir les angles. To round the corners. To smooth a situation so it becomes bearable. In French this is what you do when you don't want to face uncomfortable feelings. An angle is where two things meet and don't agree. Round it and the disagreement goes.
Slop does this too. It's a word from AI. AI slop. Something specific goes in. Then something already recognizable comes out. Shitty output.
A non-normative story arrives. It's not so easy to sit inside. So the listener rounds it. Pin it down: Beautiful. Sad. Brave. The discomfort ends fast.
I typed "transsexual" into a diffusion model, the same one I use in a live drawing tool I've built. Got back fem bodies, mostly naked, no masc at all. ChatGPGT explained this to me:

I hear a connection between this computational operation and the operation of an insult. Both can take something specific and return it through associations already known. A slur generalizes but also does this brutal operation: before you arrive, the category is already there. Slop sounds like salope to my French ear, at the hyperfast AI pace. Salope means slut, bitch.
Slop slips into salope. A slut isn't a description. It's something already there for a body. A slip and a slop don't agree. They fuck. The slop is the slut. A slip, a pair of briefs holding a prosthetic dick, has to deal with the slop. The slut is a fag wearing a slip. Big eyes. Symmetrical face. Plastic skin. Perfect hair.
