I finally understand Magritte's The Treachery of Images (La trahison des images). Ceci n'est pas une pipe. He meant, in 1929: Ceci n'est pas une pipeline.
I use computational pipelines in my work, such as MediaPipe in TouchDesigner for motion capture.
MediaPipe (Media + Pipeline) is Google's open-source toolkit for processing images, video and sensor data. These systems don't simply represent the world. A representation (an image, an animation, a skeleton) is not a static object. It is one moment in a chain of operations.
